Running Shoes Are Cheaper Than Insulin: Marathon Adventures On All Seven Continents
March 14, 2008
From press release.

This is an inspiring story about your not so typical marathoner with a spirit for adventure and worldwide travel. The author joined an elite group of athletes by running marathons on all seven continents, including Antarctica. Fewer than 225 people have accomplished this feat. To put this in perspective, over 500 people reached the summit of Mt. Everest in 2007 alone.

During his travels, he chronicled his adventures as he met other interesting runners and people from around the world. For example, he met a high school alumna on the shipping dock in Ushuaia, Argentina. He initially started his online journal as a way of logging his thousands of photographs. Much to his surprise, hundreds of people around the world began following his journeys and corresponding with him.

He's run over 90 marathons in 28 States since 1982. Some had fewer than 20 runners. He's won age group and weight division trophies. And he's finished dead last. He's seen it all. His international marathons include navigating the narrow ledges on the Great Wall of China, running up glaciers in sub-freezing temperatures in Antarctica, and seeing rhinos, zebras, and cheetahs on Kenya's Safaricom Lewa Marathon course. He described his travels as "living in a National Geographic Special."
