Each year the number of athletes who swim, bike and run
their way through Triathlon events grows by leaps and
bounds. But although more and more people are "TRI-ing"
it, many still think this competitive event is reserved only for
world-class athletes and Ironmen. To help dispel this myth and prepare those interested in
taking up the sport, Alpha Books presents The Complete
Idiot's Guide to Triathlon Training (ISBN: 1-59257-580-3,
$18.95) by Colin Barr and Steve Katai, two "regular
guys" who have been coached by the best. The Complete
Idiot's Guide to Triathlon Training takes readers through all
the necessary steps needed to prepare for a triathlon.
Throughout the book, the authors detail:
* Reasons for taking up the sport
* How to choose the right race
* Selecting the right equipment
* Steps to physically prepare for competition
First-timers and experienced triathletes alike appreciate
Barr and Katai's insights and hands-on experience as
competitors and personal trainers. They include in-depth
training tips and drills for various activities and
valuable advice on diet and keeping motivated. In addition,
they discuss:
Making it through the all-important transitions between
swimming / biking and biking / running
Fueling up with the right foods before, during and after
workouts
Weight training workouts and schedules
Preparing psychologically for the event
What to do before, during and after the race
Planning the next adventure
Also included are helpful training photos, "coaches corner"
tips and definitions of common training terms.
About the authors:
Colin Barr and Steve Katai started out in triathlon by winning
the nationwide Degree Everyman Ironman search; Katai in
2003 and Barr in 2004. Degree Antiperspirant wanted to
turn an "average Joe" who had little or no background in
triathlon into an Ironman in just a few months of training.
Both Katai and Barr went from zero to Ironman in less than 5
months of training. Since then, Katai and Barr have
completely embraced the sport of triathlon; it has become a
fundamental part of their lives.
